In my 2006 film »Conceptual Paradise« I focussed my intellectual interest on three generations of conceptual artists for whom the following terms are discussed: historical-, neo-, para-, post- or de-conceptual artistic practice. In the form of a specific cinematic mode of reflection, the film gives insights into the discourses fundamental to contemporary artistic practices such as influence, language, immaterial or social production, feminist, post-colonial and institutional critique.

For the support of my project I owe thanks to all involved persons: artists, curators and theorists as well as the film crew and all others.

Beyond the sequences used in the film, this webarchive provides the comprehensive material gathered during conversations with about 60 artists and theorists in full length. Here you can access rare film footage as well as the transcriptions of the interviews for further research. Hence, this website is meant to serve as archive, cultural memory and as a starting point for current artistic as well as academic projects.

In December 2009 and January 2010, a first public presentation of the Conceptual Paradise archive took place at the Kunstraum of Leuphana University of Lüneburg with a lecture series which was continued in summer 2010; find more information in the introductory text.

Diese Website stellt eine künstlerische Forschung über den Konzeptualismus dar – über und als konzeptuelle Kunst.

Mit meinem Film Conceptual Paradise habe ich mein künstlerisch-wissenschaftliches Interesse darauf gerichtet, wie drei Generationen konzeptueller Künstler*innen die folgenden unterschiedlichen Ansätze diskutieren: historische, neo-, para-, post- oder de-konzeptuelle künstlerische Praxis. In Form einer spezifisch kinematografischen Reflexion gibt der Film systematische Einblicke in die Diskurse, die fundamental für die zeitgenössische künstlerische Praxis sind wie Einfluss, Sprache, immaterielle oder soziale Produktion, feministische, postkoloniale und institutionelle Kritik.

Für die Unterstützung meines Projekts bedanke ich mich bei allen beteiligten Personen: Künstler*innen, Kurator*innen und Theoretiker*innen und dem Filmteam sowie allen anderen.

Außer den im Film verwendeten Sequenzen bietet das Archiv die gesamten Filmaufnahmen aus 60 Interviews mit Künstler*innen und Theoretiker*innen in voller Länge. Sie können hier das seltene Filmmaterial ansehen und die Transkriptionen der Interviews lesen. Somit ist diese Website sowohl als Archivierung und kulturelles Gedächtnis als auch als Ausgangspunkt für aktuelle künstlerische und akademische Projekte gedacht.

Eine Vorform dieses Conceptual Paradise-Archivs wurde von Dezember 2009 bis Januar 2010 im Kunstraum der Leuphana Universität in Lüneburg präsentiert und von einer Lecture-Serie bis in den Sommer 2010 ergänzt; mehr Information finden Sie im Einleitungstext.
